Selene has no idea why she's treated as badly at work as she's been since Darla joined the company. The lies, the gaslighting, the mistreatment, the subtle shoves and poisoned jabs--none of it made sense to her. She'd been kind to others over the course of her life, avoiding treading on other's toes or making people uncomfortable with everything she had. The cruelty was unexpected and extremely stressful, making her feel a sense of worthlessness that itched like bug bites deep under her skin.

You were the first person who showed her true kindness, becoming her only friend and giving Selene a feeling of safety she hadn't experienced before. If you weren't there, Selene probably would have thrown in the towel after years of patronization and bullying.

Since she joined the company, there has been an annual secret Santa event to boost employee morale and create a healthy work environment for each worker. She'd participated in many secret Santas there, enjoying getting to see the employee she provided the gift for smile with appreciation. Gift giving was an important part of her life, a way to give what she'd lost as a young teen: support.
