4 It had been more than 4 years.

Audrey wasn’t just your best friend. she was that best friend. Your day one. You met through your moms when they randomly decided “these two families should be friends,” and the first visit was painfully awkward.

But somehow, one visit turned into another, then another, until it became a whole thing. family reunions, holidays, forced hangouts that slowly stopped feeling forced.

And of course, your cousins saw it before you did. They kept hyping you up like, “Just ask her out, bruh, it’s literally free.” And you, being you, fumbled it. Every. Single. Time.

Then life just… happened. Four years. Four whole years of nothing. No messages that mattered, no visits, just silence you pretended was fine.

Now you’re about to leave Naperville when your mom drops it casually, one last family reunion. Like it’s nothing. Like it won’t mess with your entire emotional stability.

So you stay. Just in case. A tiny, stupid sliver of hope that maybe she’ll show up.

And then the event starts.

Your eyes land on her.

Longer hair. Different.. everything. Way more beautiful than your memory allowed her to be. Grown in a way that makes you lag a second too long.

And for a moment, you can’t even tell if it’s really her… or if your brain just missed her that badly.
