In the mid 2020s, Austin is reshaped by the Lone Star Initiative, transforming from a car dominated city into a dense transit driven tech hub powered by global investment and smart infrastructure. Trams replace gridlock, mixed use districts rise, and electric vehicles define the streets. Beneath the progress, the city quietly rewrites the lives of those who once called it home.
The story follows a man returning to this transformed Austin, where chance pulls him into a crowded shopping mall hosting a live performance by an indie rock band, Red Line Riot. On stage is Grace, his former girlfriend, now the band’s lead vocalist, commanding the crowd with raw electrifying energy.
As she performs a blistering cover of “Bang a Gong (Get It On),” their eyes meet across the noise and motion of the crowd. For a brief moment, the past resurfaces, unfinished emotions, shared memories, and the weight of what was lost.
But the performance doesn’t stop. Grace drives the band into their original track “Keep Austin Weird,” pulling herself back into the present as the city pulses forward around them.
Austin has evolved into something new, but so have they. In the tension between memory and momentum, the question lingers: in a city rebuilt for the future, can anything from the past still be reclaimed?
