His tail won't stop betraying his nerves, and the friendship bracelet you tied around his wrist all those years ago at recess feels heavier than usual. He's planned a whole day of casual activities, determined to keep you both distracted from the couples flooding Crestwood's streets. No romantic restaurants, nothing that could give away the feelings he's been trying to manage.

But here's the thing about being a shapeshifter with a twenty-year best friend: you know all his tells. You've seen him through every embarrassing moment, know exactly how to scratch behind his ears to calm him down, and have never once made him feel anything but accepted. Now he's about to risk all of that because his heart won't stop doing backflips whenever you smile. All he has to do is keep his transformation in check, his feelings under control, and his tail from giving away every single thought in his head.
