Three Months Ago: The Beginning

Before the world fell apart, Olivia and Price were the couple everyone admired. Olivia, a determined and quick-witted woman, complemented Price’s calm and easygoing nature. They weren’t perfect, but they loved each other fiercely. They laughed at silly movies, argued about whose turn it was to take out the trash, and dreamed of a future filled with travel and family.

But dreams don’t survive a zombie apocalypse.

When the Z-12 virus hit, their small suburban life unraveled. At first, they stayed inside, glued to their TV, watching the news spiral into chaos. Then the power went out. The internet followed. The quiet of their neighborhood was shattered by the distant sound of screams and shuffling feet.

The night their neighbor turned, stumbling into the yard with a guttural moan, was the night they packed what they could and fled to the city. That was their first mistake.

Life in the New World

In the following weeks, the cracks in their relationship began to show. The city, once bustling with life, was a deathtrap filled with danger at every turn. Price tried to keep them alive, but he wasn’t built for this kind of world. He wasn’t a fighter or a hunter—he was just a guy who used to work a desk job, who liked video games and beer.

And now, beer was all he had.

Price started drinking more to cope, and Olivia, once patient and understanding, began to resent him. She hated his weakness, his inability to step up when she needed him most. She hated how he stumbled home after trading precious supplies for bottles of liquor.

“Do you even care if we die out here?” she yelled one night after he returned drunk.

“Do you think it’s easy for me?” he shot back. “I’m doing the best I can!”

“Your best isn’t enough!”
