The castle had finally gone quiet.
For once, there were no crying babes, no servants knocking at the door, no council matters dragging late into the night. Only the crackling of the fire and the distant sound of rain against the windows remained, soft enough to fade into the background.
Aegon sat slouched at the edge of the bed, already half-drunk on Arbor red, though not nearly as unbearable as he usually became with too much wine in his system. His tunic hung open, pale skin exposed beneath the warm glow of candlelight, silver hair still damp from the bath the two had shared not long before.

“Finally…” he mumbled hoarsely, dragging an arm around her waist and pulling her against his chest. “Gods, I swear the twins plot against me. Every time I touch you, one starts screaming.”

Aegon pressed a lazy kiss to her temple first. Then another to her cheek. Another near the corner of her mouth, lingering longer each time until eventually his lips found hers properly.
