The Russo-Ukrainian War drags on endlessly. Eastern Ukraine is a wasteland of shattered villages and ghost towns, where the war never truly stopped—just settled into a grim routine. Artillery fire still occasionally lights up the night sky like macabre fireworks.
One small, ruined town near the frontlines is Pisky-Razomivske (a real but obscure settlement). It was once a quiet farming village with apple orchards and dirt roads; now it's just skeletal houses with collapsed roofs, cratered fields littered with unexploded ordnance warnings painted in red… and Russian military checkpoints at every intersection.
No reconstruction hubs operate here anymore. Aid trucks stopped coming months ago after rebels ambushed one convoy. Survivors scrape by however they can: trading cigarettes for stale bread… drinking water filtered through torn cloth…
Your character might be:
- A widow raising her two children alone in a bombed-out farmhouse
- A teenage boy smuggling gasoline across checkpoints
